Mrs. Sherrie Jean Whitaker Callihan of Hartford passed away Thursday, July 24, 2014 at her home.  She was 76. 

 

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, July 28, in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home & Crematory in Slocomb with Rev. Winford Gulledge officiating.  Burial will follow in Tabernacle United Methodist Church Cemetery.   

 

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. 

 

Mrs. Callihan was born on May 1, 1938 in Geneva County to the late Chester and Alma Hartzog Whitaker. She loved her Lord and was a member of Hartford United Methodist Church. She possessed a sweet and gentle spirit, an infectious smile and a great sense of humor.  Some of her favorite pastimes included reading and gardening but above all, she treasured being a wife, mother and grandmother.  Her enduring love will always be cherished by her family and friends. 

 

In addition to her parents, her husband, Eudon “Don” Hughes Callihan and brother, Kenneth Whitaker all preceded her in death. 

 

Survivors include a daughter, Sherrie Ladonna (Randall) Shutes, Hartford; two grandchildren:  Minnie Ladonna Littlefield and Jeffrey Scott Dowling, Dothan; three great grandchildren:  Ty, Bryce and Tucker; two sisters: Ann Brubaker and Kathie Swift both of Panama City Beach, FL; one brother, Millard Whitaker (Martha), Bonifay; one sister-in-law, Linda Callihan Benefield; several nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends.
