Mr. John Richard Singletary Jr. passed away Saturday, April 5, 2014 at SAMC.  He was 84.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 7, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home with Dr. J. Christopher Adams, Rev. Coley Holloway, Rev. Lee Chorn and Rev. Wendell Holmes officiating. Burial will follow in the New Teamon Baptist Church Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home & Crematory of Slocomb directing.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the New Teamon Baptist Church Cemetery Fund: 3813 S. County Road 85 Slocomb, AL 36375.

Mr. Singletary was born on January 11, 1930 to the late John Richard and Alar Hartzog        Singletary and was a member of New Teamon Baptist Church. Mr. John was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force and retired as a Master Sergeant (E8). After his military service he continued in public service and retired from the United States Postal Service. He loved “peddling” cars with his brother-in-law, Bill Smith. Mr. John was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather who will always be remembered for his kind and gentle spirit.

In addition to his parents, his wife of 58 years, Mable Battles Singletary; two sisters: Shirley Collins and Anne Smith preceded him in death.

Surviving relatives include his children: Rick Singletary and Tami Singletary Hudson; grandchildren: Scotty Hudson, Mary Cathryn and Sara Singletary along with their mother, Mary Singletary; a special sister, Joan Jones, a very special and dear niece, Amy Adams Mims; other nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
