Mr. Tommy L. Vinson Sr. of Slocomb passed away Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at Flowers Hospital. He was 82.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 22, at Pilgrim Rest (West) Baptist Church with Rev. Teddy Ward and Rev. Wendell Holmes officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home & Crematory of Slocomb directing.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
Mr. Vinson was born January 31, 1932 in Geneva County to the late John Curvy and Ethel Gladys Helms Vinson. He was a member of Pilgrim Rest (West) Baptist Church. Mr. Vinson worked as Procurement Specialist for NASA and retired after 27 years of honored service. Tommy possessed a patient and kind hearted spirit. He enjoyed spending time on the farm with his grandkids and looking after for his cattle. He was a dedicated husband, beloved father and loving grandfather. He will be missed by all that knew him.
In addition to his parents, his wife, Charlotte Vinson; one sister, Grace Helms and two brothers: Kenneth Vinson and Johnny Mack Vinson preceded him in death.
Survivors include two sons: Tommy L. Vinson Jr., Slocomb and Jeffery W. Vinson (Dana), Madison; three grandchildren: Kayleigh, Tristan and Nicolas Vinson; mother-in-law, Jeanette Moseley, Columbus, GA; one brother, Jerry Vinson (Mary), Slocomb; two sisters-in-law: Carol Vinson Ostrowski, Gulf Breeze and Glenda Vinson, Slocomb; brother-in-law, Bobby Helms, Slocomb; several nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends.
