Mrs. Sherleen Tew Hughes of Slocomb went home to be with the Lord Friday, October 4, 2024.  She was 80. 

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 7, 2024 in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home in Slocomb with Rev. Wendell Holmes officiating.  Interment will follow in the New Teamon Baptist Church Cemetery. 

The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to service time. 

Mrs. Hughes was born July 19, 1944, in Geneva County to the late James Grover and Juanita Dunn Tew.  Sherleen enjoyed farm life, especially showing cows with her grandchildren.  She was a loving and faithful wife, and an adoring mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will be dearly missed.   

In addition to her parents, her husband of 55 years, Rev. Huey Hughes; and brother, James Winford “Wimpy” Tew all preceded her in death. 

Survivors include three daughters: Teresa Hovey (Ronald), Fadette, Lesa Pert, Slocomb, and Missy Hendrix (James), Slocomb; one son, Brian Hughes (Julie), Malone, FL;  grandchildren: Angie Proctor (Patrick), Daniel Gray (Ariel), Phillip Gray (Alicia), Jenna Hughes, Kaylee Barber (Clifford), Colby Hughes, Austin Hughes (Jessica), and Damian Crutchfield;  fourteen great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; siblings: Kathleen Silvers (Carl), Newton, Roger Tew (Gladys), Slocomb, and Terry Tew (Debbie); several nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends.
