Mr. James Gary Cox of Wicksburg went home to be with the Lord Friday, September 27, 2024, at Flowers Hospital.  He was 80. 

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 30, 2024 at Pilgrim Home Baptist Church with Rev. Allen Singley and Rev. Anthony Stewart officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home of Slocomb directing. 

The family will receive at the funeral home on Sunday from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you honor Gary’s memory with your contribution to the Pilgrim Home Baptist Church, 13534 W. US Highway 84, Newton, AL 36352. 

Mr. Cox was born February 15, 1944, in Houston County to the late James Lawrence and Doris Wilkes Cox.  Gary retired from the General Telephone Company after 35 years, worked at Ft. Rucker for many years, and was a current member of the Houston County School Board. He enjoyed working on the family farm and loved working his cows.  Gary was a family man and was always his children   and grandchildren’s #1 fan.  He was a faithful servant of Christ, member and deacon at Pilgrim Home Baptist Church. 

Survivors include his beloved wife of 60 years, Carol Cox; sons: Scott A. Cox (Loree), and Michael G. Cox (Martie), J. Kyle Cox (Kathryn), and James Matthew Cox (Madison); grandchildren: Kylee Cox Fossum (Jeremy), Caleb Cox (Savannah), Abby Cox Owens (Manning), Olivia Cox, Logan Cox, Camille Cox, Cody Cox, Harper Cox, and Hayden Cox; great grandson, Beau Manning Owens; brother, Danny Ray Cox; several nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.
