Mutt was a praying man who placed his faith and trust in his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Mutt, affectionately known as Pepaw to family and many others, was humble, quiet, honest and conducted himself with integrity beyond reproach. Mutt was an excellent provider for his family and put their needs above his own.
Mutt was a 1948 graduate of Geneva County High School where he was Valedictorian and President of his Senior Class. Mutt began a 42-year military career following high school, primarily with the Alabama Army National Guard, retiring in 1989 with the rank of Chief Warrant Officer (W2). Not one to be idle, he began a second career with First National Bank of Hartford in 1989 where he enjoyed interacting with the customers and employees until 2012 when he retired for good.
Mutt was a faithful member and servant/leader of Hartford Baptist Church where he served as Deacon, Sunday School teacher and usher.
Mutt was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Lillie Hunter Brannon, brother Jeff (Lib) Brannon, and wife and mother of his children, Betty Brannon.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Brannon, sons Lamar (Debbie) of Pfafftown, NC, Terry (Cathy) of Thompson’s Station, TN, Jeffrey (Nina) of Hartford, AL, stepdaughters Freida (Winton) Fulford and Sheila Whittle of Hartford, AL, eight grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.
