Mrs. Marie Harris, a resident of Westside Terrace but formally of Slocomb, passed away Friday, February 7, 2014 at Flowers Hospital.  She was 84. 

 

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 9, in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home with Rev. Dan Raley and Rev. Woody Farrington officiating.  Burial will follow in the New Teamon Baptist Church Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home & Crematory of Slocomb directing. 

 

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until service time.  

 

Mrs. Harris was born on August 23, 1929 in Geneva County to the late James Wesley and Binnie Payne Phillips.  She was employed with the Florida State School System and worked in the school cafeteria retiring after 20 years of service. 

 

In addition to her parents, her husband, Allie Harris and four sisters preceded her in death. 

 

Survivors include three sons: James Earl Harris, Southport, FL, Tyrone Harris (Tammy), Wetumpka and Danny Ray Harris, Malvern; five sisters:  Myrtis Sasser, Dothan, Bobbie Shirah, Slocomb, Cora Laverne Turner, Ozark, Margie Hicks, Leesburg, FL and Betty Smith, Cottonwood; four grandchildren: Heather George , Matt Harris, both of Panama City, FL, Brandy and Samantha Harris, Wetumpka; two great grandchildren: Austin Harris and Aubrey George; special niece, Joyce Tew, Slocomb; several other nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends. 

 

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Westside Terrace for the love and care shown to Mrs. Harris for the past eight years.
