Mr. Jerry Comer Daughtry of Wicksburg went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at UAB Hospital in Birmingham.  He was 78.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 27, 2024, in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home in Slocomb with Rev. Cliff Morrison and Judson Daughtry officiating.  Interment will follow in the Jellico Community Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you honor Comer’s memory with your contribution to Wicksburg Varsity Football: Attn: Coach Josh Cox, 1172 South State Hwy 123, Newton AL 36352.

Born Christmas Eve 1945, Mr. Daughtry was a lifetime resident of Wicksburg.  He was a member of the Wicksburg High School Class of 1964 and was a die-hard supporter of Panther football.  Comer received a degree in mathematics from Troy University which he used to pursue a career in computer programing.  He was employed early in his career at Couch Construction before founding his own computer programing business where he worked until his retirement. Comer married his high school sweetheart, Linda, who he met while driving her school bus and they enjoyed over 56 wonderful years together.  His favorite title was “Gramps”; he spent the past 20 plus years catering to his grandchildren and took great pride in concocting special “meals” that would draw them to home often. Comer will be deeply missed by his family, the Wicksburg Community, and the Panther Nation.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rex and Gladies Harper Daughtry; and a son, Jerry Lee Daughtry.

Survivors include his loving wife, Linda Faye Gilley Daughtry; daughter, Amy Daughtry Waid (Charles); son, Gary Lyn Daughtry; grandchildren: Ella Pruitt, Lillie Pruitt, Jackson Daughtry, Jeremiah Daughtry, Jasmine Daughtry, Michael Driskell (Jaci), and Hannah Harris Nix (John Rivers); brother, James Ray Daughtry (Flora); sister-in-law, Edna Marks (Leonard); several nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.
