Shawn Staley McCray of Hartford passed away Tuesday, February 27, 2024 at his home. He was 55.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, March 1, 2024 in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home in Slocomb with Rev. Tom Chestnut officiating. Burial will follow in the Hartford City Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home of Slocomb directing.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday beginning at 1:00 p.m. and continuing until service time.

Shawn was born May 11, 1968 at Fort Dix, New Jersey to Jerry McCray and Karen Armstrong McCray. Shawn was a 1986 graduate from Geneva County High School. He was an avid outdoorsman, loved cooking especially Cajun food. Shawn worked at Lowes for twenty years, later becoming store manager. He was a dear friend to many and never met a stranger. Shawn loved his family dearly.
Survivors include his mother, Karen Armstrong McCray, Hartford; father, Jerry McCray, Colorado Springs, Colorado; sister, Jennifer Peterson (Scott), Hartford; two nephews: Sawyer Peterson, Dothan and Connor Peterson, Hartford; other extended family and friends.

I will miss Shawn immensely. He was the best manager I've ever had and treated everybody fairly.
I had the pleasure of having Shawn as a store manager. He will be truly missed. My condolences to his family and friends.
