Martha Jean Peters of Slocomb heard her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ say, “well done my good and faithful servant” on Monday, January 15, 2024.  She was 82. 

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 18, 2024, in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home in Slocomb with Rev. Timmy Dyke, and Rev. Bill Taylor officiating.  Interment will follow in the Christian Home Baptist Church Cemetery. 

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. 

In lieu of flowers, the family request that you honor Martha Jean’s memory with your contribution to the Christian Home Baptist Church. 

Mrs. Peters was born November 26, 1941, in Houston County to the late James Roland and Mary Watford Mills. Martha Jean retired from Dothan Glass Company where she was employed for over 20 years. A true woman of faith and prayer warrior, she taught Sunday School, Discipleship Training, Vacation Bible School, and enjoyed singing in the church choir. Martha Jean was a loving and adoring wife, mother, and grandmother and will be dearly missed. 

In addition to her parents, one brother, Michael Mills; niece, Marcie Mills preceded her in death. 

Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Billy Max Peters; daughters: Krista Mills (Jeff), and Karla Birdsong (David); grandchildren: Courtney Nowell (Derek), Andrea Grantham (Matt), Chase Mills, Sarah Birdsong, and Johndavid Birdsong; great grandchildren: Brody, Bentley, Landon, Lilly, Ella, and Ava; brother: Cullen Mills (Susan); sister-in-law, Daisy Mills; aunt, Ida Lee Boswell; numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.
