Mr. James Robert Dew of Hartford passed away Friday, August 18, 2023 at Flowers Hospital. He was 85. 

Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 22, 2023 at New Cannan Ministries with Pastor Peggy Stewart, and Pastor Robert Hvarven officiating. Burial will follow in the Hurricane Church Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home of Slocomb directing. 

The family will receive friends at the church on Tuesday beginning at 1:00 p.m. and continuing until service time. 

Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made in James’s memory to Hurricane Cemetery Maintenance and Burial Society or the charity of your choice. 

Mr. Dew was born February 27, 1938 in Tarboro, North Carolina to the late James Earl Dew and Evelyn Pigg Pulley. James has been married to the love of his life, Nina for 40 years. He served seven years active duty in the Air Force and the rest of his 21 years in the National Guard. James worked for Alabama Power Company for 34 years until his retirement. He was a board and active member of New Cannan Ministries. 

In addition to his parents, son, James Thomason “Tommy” Dew, and his daughter, Pam Kimbrel preceded him in death. 

Survivors include his wife, Nina Tindell Dew, Hartford; children: Andrea “Andi” Dew Lee (Bryan), Dothan, Wendy Avery Morgan (Bill), Hayneville, and Robert R. Millard (Pam), NC, Jamey Avery (Teisha), Slocomb; grandchildren: Elliott Linden Greene, Avery Caroline Morgan, John Tindell Morgan, Michael David Morgan, River Ezra Layne Avery and Harper Rainn Avery; several great grandchildren; sisters: Bonnie Pulley Robins, (Rev. Bob), Goloster, VA, and Sharon Pulley Hunter (Bill), Wilson, NC; several nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.
