Mr. Bedsole was born September 2, 1939 in rural Geneva County to the late J.T. and Allie Mae Dorriety Bedsole. The fourth of eight children, he was a 1957 graduate of Slocomb High School. For more than sixty-five years, he farmed his family’s homestead and was known for his hard work ethic, his honesty, and his witness for Jesus. In addition, his name is synonymous with the produce he grew, especially his tomatoes. More importantly, James lived his life in service to his Lord, his family, his church, and his neighbors. He was a member of Malvern Baptist Church for 70 years and served faithfully for more than fifty years as a deacon and several decades as the teacher of the Adult Men’s Sunday School Class. Other than serving God, he spent his time away from the farm involved in the lives of his children and grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, a son, Mark Bedsole; sister, Rebecca King Bedsole; brother, William Keneith Bedsole all preceded him in death.
Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, Linda Sorrells Bedsole; daughter, Amy Bedsole Hendrix; grandchildren: Stephen Baine (Savannah), Jameson Hendrix, and Allie Grace Bedsole; siblings: Evelyn E. Glover (Hubert), Lorena Leger, Joyce R. Blakey (Paul), Jean Lewis (James), and Dora Chappell (Larry); sister-in-law, Dorothy Sue Bedsole; two brothers-in-law: Sammy Sorrells (Brenda), and Charles King (Marge); several nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.
