Sunday, July 24, 1938 - Sunday, July 17, 2022

Mr. William “Bill” Adkins, Sr.  of Wicksburg passed away quietly in the early morning of Sunday, July 17, 2022 at Hartford Health Care. He was 83.

A Graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 21, 2022 in the Goodwater Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery in Wicksburg, AL. with Rev. Phillip Craddock officiating and Sorrells Funeral Home of Slocomb officiating.

Mr. Adkins was born July 24, 1938 in Houston County to the late Fred and Rosa Adkins.  Known simply as “Bill” or Mr. “Bill” he was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Bill was a proud United States Navy veteran and served during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was a lifelong member of the Elks Lodge serving as Exalted Ruler, an honor he cherished.   Bill’s career life was mostly spent working for Danny Coleman Business Equipment. He was passionate about cooking, family, sports (all things SEC, the Alabama Crimson Tide he favored above all else), and his dogs. He enjoyed the simpler things of life and his biggest past time was maintaining his yard and soaking sunshine while walking his beloved Mocha.  Bill was married to the love of his life Janet and was blessed to spend over 60 years together. Bill loyally and lovingly cared for her during her final years as the sun set on the twilight of her life. Bill will forever be loved and missed.

In addition to his parents, his wife, Janet Adkins; brother, Fred Adkins, Jr; and sister, Jean Segler preceded him in death.

Survivors include his daughter, Alisa Fabela (Mario); son, William “Billy” Adkins Jr.; grandchildren: Amanda Moody (Tyler), Tony Thompson Jr., Leighanne Polson (Steven), Shelby Ellenburg (Stephen), and Trevor Adkins; great grandchildren: Joslyn, Miles, Stetson, Charlotte, Brooklyn, Amira, Cylas, Sawyer, and Spencer; other extended family and friends.

The family would like to say a special thanks to the entire staff at Hartford Health Care, Daphne Sellers, Mary Smiley, and the staff of Enhabit Hospice for the love and care they provided.
