Barbara Hornsby Hollis, lovingly referred to as Mama Hollis, passed away May 28, 2022, at the age of 87.

She was born December 3, 1934 in Slocomb, AL where she was raised by her mother, Bernice Hornsby. On April 18, 1952, she married the love of her life, Aubrey “Levon” Hollis and moved to Pensacola where Levon was stationed in the Navy. After leaving the Navy, Barbara and Levon returned to the Wiregrass area and settled in the Jellico Community where they had a dairy farm. There they raised their two children, Miriam and Kenneth, and made many wonderful memories on “Hollis Hill.” Everyone who met Barbara recognized she was the embodiment of Southern hospitality, and her laughter was infectious. She was a fantastic cook, and nothing hit the spot like a glass of her sweet tea. Barbara was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and a best friend. She crocheted countless baby blankets for family and friends, and she made beautiful quilts.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Bernice, her husband of fifty years, Levon, her son Kenneth, and her brothers and sister.

She is survived by her daughter, Miriam Hollis Grace (Wallace), Birmingham, her grandchildren Hollis Reeves Ryan (Casey), Birmingham, Donnie Reeves, Birmingham, Amy Grace, New Orleans, and Marsha Grace, Southern Pines, NC,  great granddaughter, Cameron Ryan, who brought her so much joy and laughter, Nicholas Grace, Emmie, Jack and Peter Grace, daughter-in-law LaDonna Brookins Hollis Hart, a special nephew, Kevin Hornsby (Heidi) Dothan, their children Anna and Austin, and several other cousins, nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held Friday, June 3, 2022, 10:30 AM, at Pilgrim’s Rest Baptist Church, 3176 Cumbie Rd, Newton, AL with by Dr. Kevin Hornsby officiating and Sorrells Funeral Home of Slocomb directing. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Slocomb First United Methodist Church, PO Box 304, Slocomb, AL 36375.
