Mary E. Burns Bass

Sunday, February 18, 1934 - Thursday, March 25, 2021

Mary E. Burns Bass went to be with the Lord on March 25, 2021.  She was 87. 

Mary was born in Dothan, AL on February 18, 1934 to the late Willie and Berta Walls. She attended Malvern and Slocomb schools and married Robert Burns.  They had a daughter, Linda Burns. On May 20, 2001, she married William R. Bass, a lifelong friend. She is also survived by a niece, Sonya Knowles.

Mary was a noted artist and china painter, selling her works via shows and the internet throughout the southeast and some to Europe.  Her vast collection of awards, plaques and ribbons, many for “Best of Show”, attest to her artistic skill.  The “Living Water” painting over the baptistery of Union Baptist Church is one her finest landscape examples. Mary was very outgoing; was a loving and caring person who enjoyed sharing the love of Christ by distributing gospel tracts at the numerous art shows she attended. 

In addition to her parents, a brother, L.J. Walls preceded her in death. 

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 28, 2021 at Union Baptist Church with Rev. Bryan Carpenter officiating.  Interment will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home of Slocomb directing.  The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to service time.
