Mrs. Gayle H. Scott of Opelika, formerly of Geneva County, passed away Tuesday, April 9, 2019 at her home. She was 78.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 13, 2019 in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home in Slocomb with Brent Nowell officiating. Interment will follow in the Slocomb City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until service time.

Mrs. Scott was born September 20, 1940 in Geneva County to the late Charlie H. and Lillie Ponds Hicks. Gayle retired from Van Heusen after 34 years of service before moving to the Auburn/Opelika area in 1997. She was known to many affectionately as Mama (Maw-Maw), loved to cook and to bake, and was always blessing others with these talents.
In addition to her parents, her husband, Willie J. Scott; three brothers: Billy E. Hicks, John Wayne Hicks, and James A. Hicks all preceded her in death.
Survivors include her children: Charlene Nowell (Shaun) and Wes “Chuck” Holman (Lisa); grandchildren: Jared Holman, Brent Nowell (Sara), and Brittany Nowell; great grandchildren: Jewel Manuel and Kathy Sue Nowell; brothers: Robert “Bob” Hicks (Lounell) and Kenneth G. Hicks (Betty); sisters-in-law: Jackie Hicks Collins and Hebe Hicks; several nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.

I love you Charlene and Chuck!! I loved your mama so much!! I know she is dancing with Willie and smiling with Jesus. My prayers are with all of you for comfort and peace that only our Father can give you!!
She was such a sweet, kind,and warm loving person who welcomed us into her home with open arms. I remember us discussing her delicious recipes and she is remembered very fondly. God speed Gayle. And God bless your family....
