Mrs. Evelyn W. Thorne of Hartford went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, November 29, 2013 surrounded by her family, following a five year battle with cancer. She was 72.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday December 1, in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home & Crematory of Slocomb with Rev. Bruce Spivey and Rev. Chris Eckert officiating. Burial will follow in the Hartford City Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home & Crematory directing.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 6 until 8 p.m.
Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made to Sardis Church, 649 Co. Rd. 67, Hartford, AL 36344.
Mrs. Thorne was born March 15, 1941 in Henry County to the late Julian Francis and Mattie Pearl Odom Welcher. She was a loving, caring, nurturing and generous lady, who was an inspiration to all who came in contact with her. Mrs. Thorne was a graduate of Abbeville High School and later became a founding member of SAMC Foundation. She attended Sardis Church.
In addition to her parents one sister, Mary Jean Welcher and one brother, Dan Welcher preceded her in death.
Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Don R. Thorne, Hartford; one daughter, Donna Robinson (Chris), Hartford; two sons: Mark Thorne (Brandy), Slocomb and Scott Thorne, Birmingham; one sister, Betty W. Taylor, Abbeville and one brother, Billy Joe Welcher (Virginia), Lake Wells, FL; three grandchildren: Brandon and Presley Thorne and Christopher Scott Robinson; very special aunt, Martha Skipper, Pinckard; several nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends.
