Shirley Burkett Lee

Mrs. Shirley Burkett Lee of Newton passed away Thursday, February 7, 2019 at her home. She was 83. 

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday February 10, 2019 at Pilgrim Home Baptist Church with Rev. Buddy Hood and Dr. Jerry Grandstaff officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home in Slocomb directing. 

The family will receive friends at the church on Sunday beginning at 1:00 p.m. and continuing until service time. 

Mrs. Lee was born September 5, 1935 in Houston County to the late Bert H. Burkett Sr. and Ruby Lee Austin Burkett. Shirley was a woman of faith and member of Pilgrim Home Baptist Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir. She possessed an enthusiastic spirit and enjoyed tending her garden. Shirley was a loving wife, adoring mother and grandmother who will be profoundly missed by her family and community. 

In addition to her parents, husband, Wallace Lee preceded her in death. 

Survivors include daughter, Kelli Reed (Trabo), Montgomery; son, Stan Lee (Vicki), Irmo SC; grandchildren: Trey Reed, Anna Lee Sauls (Coral) and Rob Lee; great-granddaughters: Brookelyn Sauls and Madilyn Joul Sauls; sisters: Gloria Jones and Starla Weed (Doug); brothers: Bert H. Burkett Jr. (Naomi), Claude Burkett (Joann), James Burkett (Mary Anne) and Wiley Burkett (Kathy); several nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends.
