Mr. John W. Bond, passed from this world to the next on November 9, 2013 at the age of 86 after an extended illness. He was 86.  

 

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm on Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home and Crematory in Slocomb with Rev. Robert Smith officiating.  Burial will follow in Christian Home Church of Christ Cemetery with Dr. Scott Cox officiating.

 

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 6:00 until 8:00pm.  At all other times the family will receive visitors at the family residence, 3100 Judge Logue Rd., Wicksburg, AL.

 

The family will accept flowers or contributions may be made to the Gentiva Hospice Foundation, 7801 Mesquite Bend Drive, Suite 105, Irving, TX, 75063.

 

Mr. Bond was born in Houston County, AL on Dec. 30,1926 to the late Otho Otis (Ot) and Willie Merritt Bond.  Mr. Bond lived in the Wicksburg area most of his life, and was an active benefactor of the Wicksburg community for over fifty years.  He grew up farming with his mother and his siblings in Houston and Dale Counties.  Mr. Bond had a great love for our country and served in the United States Navy in the South Pacific during WW II.  After the war, Mr. Bond married Kathleen Williams in 1949, and during the 1950s, he worked for a local propane company in Dothan.  In 1961, Mr. Bond established Community Gas Company in Wicksburg and over the next few decades, he expanded his businesses to include Wicksburg Furniture Company, Bond Hardware, Bond Construction, Pleasant Valley Corporation, Charming Accents, and Westend Oil Inc.  He was active in the Ruritan Club, and was President of the local Lions Club for several years.  Mr. Bond was also active in the Houston County Republican Party until his illness made it impossible to attend meetings.  When he wasn’t working, Mr. Bond enjoyed fishing, raising cattle, farming, gardening, and spending time with his family.

 

In addition to his parents, Mr. Bond was preceded in death by three brothers: Otis Bond, Ted Bond (Sara), and Ernest (Short) Bond.  

Survivors include his wife of sixty-four years, Kathleen (Williams) Bond;  children: Kathy Bond Carpenter (Randall), John Stanley Bond Sr. (Markie), Susan Bond Hardy (Kenneth); grandchildren: John Stanley Bond, Jr. (Mandy), Jason Driggars, Joshua Hardy, Amanda Hardy Mathis (Bart), William Bond, Tasha Bond, and Leahanna Bond.  He also enjoyed several great-grand children and many nieces and nephews. Siblings: Merle Jacobs, Ruth Collins, Robert Bond (Ann).

Pallbearers will be John Stanley Bond, Jr., Jason Driggars, Joshua Hardy, William Bond, Bart Mathis, Oaklyn Hardy, Prestin Turvin, Tristan Bond, Dylian Bond.
