Mr. Johnny Mack Helms passed away Thursday, January 4, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was 73.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 6, 2018  at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Scott Byrd and Rev. Tim Folds officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full Military Honors and Sorrells Funeral Home & Crematory of Slocomb directing.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.  Mr. Helms was born September 29, 1944 in Geneva County to the late George H. and Eula Monteal Tucker Helms. He proudly served in the National Guard for over 20 years before his retirement. Johnny Mack owned and operated Helms Small Engines. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who will be dearly missed.  In addition to his parents, George (Buddy) Helms, Huey Helms and Rickey Helms all preceded him in death.  Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Barbara Ann Campbell Helms, Slocomb; two daughters: Connie Denise Hughes (Chris), Dothan and Tammy Sue Helms, Slocomb; three sons: Tony Mack Helms, (Jan), Alpharetta, GA, Danny Joe Helms (Sandy), Slocomb and Mickey Lee Helms (Kristin), Slocomb; seven grandchildren: Jessica Smith (Hamp), Holton Helms, Brianna Helms, Hunter Helms, Brandon Hughes, Gavin Helms and Kirkland Helms; one great granddaughter, Abbie Brannon; one sister, Barbara Sanders, Slocomb; several nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends.
