Mrs. Hughes was born July 30, 1945 in Geneva County to Bertha Ryles and the late Cody Ryles. Mrs. Hughes was loved by all that ever met her. She was the curator of the Byrd family history and the one that held and promoted our family reunions for more years than anyone can remember. She wanted all family history preserved and remembered for the generations to come. The Byrd family was blessed to have her and her passion for preserving of our family history. One of her greatest joys was being the secretary and communications coordinator for St. Paul for many years. She spent countless hours perfecting bulletins that she took great pride in for her church family. In Sue's bible were many written notes and several times she had the words "This Is It" with the following scripture... "Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies, and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die. Do you believe this? John 11:25-26 NASB.
In addition to her father, in laws: Wilton A. and Cela Mae Hughes; brothers in law: Jesse L. Hughes and Jerry M. Hughes and numerous beloved family members all preceded her in death.
Survivors include her sweetheart and husband of 51 years, Oscar Hughes, Hartford; beloved son, Allen Hughes, Birmingham; her mother, Bertha Ryles, Hartford; brother, Tim Ryles (Susan), Brunswick, GA, nieces: Rene Endres (Oliver Petit) and daughter Cody, Santa Rosa Beach, FL, Andrea Ryles, Atlanta GA and Heather Wilson (Adam) and son, Liam of Atlanta, GA; sister-in-law, Betty Hughes, Hartford; brothers-in-law, Jack Hughes (Martha), Dothan and Frank Hughes, Midland City, special caregiver and companion since 2013, Merel Thomas Hampton; special cousin, Donna Hatfield; special niece and nephew, Kim Sorrells (Perry) and Chris Hughes (Connie); numerous other nieces, nephews cousins, family members and friends.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Oscar and the family, Mrs. She was an amazing woman and I'm better and blessed to have known her. I often think of the many times she would stop by my desk on her way to see Oscar. I'll always treasure those conversations and great hugs that she had. Always had a smile. Oscar and Betty were unfailingly kind to me whenever I visited from Dunbarton's parent company offices in the Midwest, or when they traveled to see us for meetings or social events. Thoughts and prayers are going out to Oscar and his family this week from Wichita, Kansas.
