Mr. John W. "Red" Horn of Hartford went home to be with the Lord Sunday, March 19, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was 81.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at Hartford Baptist Church with Rev. Bruce Spivey, Rev. Scott Cox and Rev. Les Hughes officiating. Burial will follow in the Hartford City Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home & Crematory of Slocomb directing.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that you honor "Red's" memory by making contributions to the Hartford Baptist Church, 105 East Burch Street, Hartford, AL 36344.
"Red" was born August 1, 1935 in Geneva County to the late HL and Merle Walden Horn. He was a faithful member of the Hartford Baptist Church and the Baracca Sunday School Class. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed all things sports. He played softball for most of his life and later went on to coach and umpire the game. For many years "Red" was the Geneva County High School football announcer. He retired from Wiregrass Electric after 39 years. "Red" was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be dearly missed.
Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years, Barbara Strickland Horn, Hartford; one daughter, Jan Vinyard (Shannon), Hartford; one son, Kyle Horn (Debbie), Hoover; three grandchildren: Brooks Vinyard (Allison), San Francisco, CA, Blake Vinyard, Auburn and Connor Horn, Hoover; two great-grandchildren: Judah and Elias Vinyard, both of San Francisco, CA; two sisters: Nina Sutton and Nancy Morton; several nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends.
