Mr. Walter B. Russ of Dothan passed away Friday, December 23, 2016 at his home surrounded by his loving family.  He was 85.

 

Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. on Monday, December 26, 2016 in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home & Crematory in Slocomb with Rev. Betty Middleton officiating.  Interment will follow in the Hurricane Creek United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time.

 

Mr. Russ was born January 4, 1931 in Jackson County, Florida to the late Julian and Vera Mae Hall Russ.  He served his country honorably in  the United States Army and operated the Amoco Convenience Store in Malone Florida for over 40 years.  He was a member of Hurricane Creek United Methodist Church.

 

In addition to his parents, one brother, Edward "Buddy" Russ preceded him in death.

 

Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Carolyn Yeomans Russ; daughter, Karla Crosby (Chris); step children: Jerry Mills (Karen), Tracey Wallace (Danny), Johnnie Ward, Coley Ward (Charlotte), Wayne Ward (Marie) and Elton Dale Ward (Naomi); several grandchildren and great grandchildren;  two brothers: Charles Russ and Steve Russ (Eva); several nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends.

I am very sorry for the loss of your beloved, Walter. Please know that God is aware of your pain and he cares for you. (2 Corinthians 1:3,4) . I pray that you are able to find comfort in God's promise of paradise where there will be no more pain and sorrow (Revelation 21:4,5)  and the many wonderful  memories of your beloved becoming a reality in the future  resurrection in paradise.  (Acts 24:15).
