Mr. Willie J. Coker of Dothan passed away Sunday, June 19, 2016 at his residence. He was 85.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 24, 2016 in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home & Crematory of Slocomb with Rev. Lee Chorn officiating. Burial will follow in New Teamon Baptist Church Cemetery with full military honors.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
Mr. Coker was born October 28, 1930 in Houston County to the late Frances Golden Peacock and Earl M. Coker. Willie was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force and retired after 20 years of honorable service. In addition he retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 20 years of service. Mr. Coker was a member of the New Teamon Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be dearly missed.
In addition to his parents, one son, Edward Earl Coker and one brother, Charles Coker all preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years Flora Butler Coker, Dothan; one son, Billy S. Coker, Dothan; four grandchildren: Amanda Smitherman, Cole Coker, Carly Coker and Jesse Coker; three great-grandchildren: Henderson Smitherman, Rossi Coker and Alex Coker; two brothers: Jackie Coker, Prattville and Murry Peacock, Columbus, GA; sister-in-law, Jean Mitchell, Columbus, GA; several nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends.
Serving as pallbearers: Cole Coker, Jesse Coker, Henderson Smitherman, Bobby Mitchell, Larry Butler and Kevin Coker.
