Thursday, February 18, 1926 - Friday, June 17, 2016

Mrs. Mary Sue Hughes Doss was born in a beautiful and lovely rural community of Geneva County, Alabama on February 18, 1926 to the late Jesse Travis "J.T." and Willie Mae Hall Hughes.  She was a proud graduate of Slocomb High School, attended the University of Alabama and until her illness was a devoted member of Bay Springs Baptist Church. Along life's journey,  she fell in love and married, Cecil Ray Doss, and together they traveled extensively and resided in various locations in the Southeast. Before she passed away, Mrs. Doss eloquently wrote that it was her desire for her departure from this earthly journey to be  joyfully celebrated as she claimed God's promises of eternal life.  She quietly received her reward on Friday, June 17, 2016 at the age of 90.

In addition to her parents, her husband of 56 "happy" years, Ray Doss, Sr.; two sisters: Mozelle Hughes and Ginger H. Upton; two brothers: Ray Hughes and David Hughes; brother-in-law, Ben Upton; a very special caregiver, Mrs. Bessie Woodham preceded her in death.

Survivors include one son,  Ray Doss, Jr. (Dora) of Ocean Springs, MS; one granddaughter,  Patricia Bailey Doss of Ocean Springs, MS; sister-in-law, Patty Hughes Gilmore; a very loving and devoted niece, Jan Gardner; several nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 20, 2016 at Bay Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Scott Cox officiating and Sorrells Funeral Home & Crematory of Slocomb directing.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00 a.m. until service time.

Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made to Bay Springs Baptist Church Building Fund or to Gentiva Hospice.

The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to her very special caregivers: Linda Lemon, Beverly Johnson Cato, Rosetter Gomes and Dell Smith; as well as the wonderful and caring staff of Gentiva Hospice.
