Mrs. Myrtle Hyman Hicks went home to be with the Lord Monday, June 6, 2016 at Signature Health Care of North Florida in Graceville.  She was 76. 

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Scott Byrd and Rev. Ennis Hyman officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home & Crematory of Slocomb directing. 

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. At all other times the family will receive friends at the home of Henley Hicks, 540 North Commerce Street, Slocomb. 

Mrs. Hicks was born July 16, 1939 in Pamplico, South Carolina to the late Rev. William Rufus and Addie Leola Underwood Hyman. Myrtle moved to the Slocomb area in 1946 and met the love of her life,  James A. Hicks and they were happily married for over 51 years until his death in 2012.  She loved the Lord and was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and will be dearly missed by her family and friends. 

In addition to her parents, her husband, James Hicks, one sister, Marie Mears and one brother,  Alford Hyman preceded her in death. 

Survivors include two daughters: Terri Hicks, Slocomb, Celena Day (Robert), Auburn; two sons:  Henley Hicks (Lisa), Slocomb, Brian Hicks, Daytona Beach, FL; siblings: Rufesta Boutwell, Addie Mae Martin, Beth Wood (Al) and Rev. Ennis Hyman (Jan); six grandchildren: Jamey Redding (Shayla), Aaron Redding, Christopher Day (Traci), Courtney Day, Kevin Day and Stephen Hicks; seven great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends. 

 

The family would like to express their appreciation to the entire staff of Signature Health Care of North Florida for the love and care so freely given to Myrtle during her stay there.
