Mr. Robert A. Newman of Waco, Texas passed away Monday, November 30, 2015. He had just celebrated his 89th birthday two days before. 

The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 3 from 7:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at Sorrells Funeral Home & Crematory in Slocomb. A private family graveside service will be held on Friday. 

Robert "Bobby" Newman was born in Malvern, AL. He was a graduate of Slocomb High School and Troy State University. He began his professional career as a teacher and football coach before taking a job with Life of Georgia Insurance. Soon after he accepted a position with 3M, for whom he worked all of his adult life. He sold industrial tape and supplies in Raleigh, NC and then medical products in Clearwater, FL. He retired and moved back to Slocomb to manage cattle. He was an Army veteran of the Second World War. The son of Rex and Alma Newman, he is survived by his wife, Grace Helms Newman; a sister, Helen Eflein; a son, Carey Charles Newman; two grandchildren: Savannah and Eliza Newman. As kind a man as he was good, "Bobby" would want all donations to be made in his honor to the First Baptist Church of Slocomb.

Bob was as close a friend as I ever had, closer than most. I share your sense of loss, but I thank God that I have the heritage of that friendship as a living consolation in my heart. He is not here, but his memory is. And that brings back to life new riches every day.
