Mr. Doyce Martin Kirkland of Slocomb passed away Thursday, January 1, 2015 at his home surrounded by his loving family.  He was 96.  

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 5 in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home & Crematory in Slocomb with Rev.Van Gauthe  officiating.  Interment will follow in the Union Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors. 

 

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, 2346 West Main Street, Suite 3, Dothan, AL 36301. 

 

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. 

 

Mr. Kirkland was born April 22, 1918 in Geneva County to the late Eulus and Sallie O. Dean Kirkland.  He seperated from the United States Army as a Warrant Officer having served honorably in World War II and the Korean War. After spending many years in Pensacola and Gulf Breeze, Mr. Doyce and Mrs. Beulah moved back to Geneva County. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Slocomb and was also a Mason. 

 

In addition to his parents, a son, Gary Martin Kirkland; brothers: Clyde Kirkland and Herman Kirkland;  sisters: Grace Clemmons and Sybil Holster all preceded him in death.

 

Survivors include his loving wife of 66 years, Beulah Mae Grantham Kirkland, Slocomb; a daughter and son-in-law:  Donna and Kay Reeves of Long Beach, CA; a grandson, Nicholas Reeves (Jennifer), San Celemente, CA; six great-grandchildren; sisters: Mary Register, Dothan and Virginia Turner, Dothan; several nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends.
