Mrs. Myrtice Louise Hughes Smith passed away Thursday, September 18, 2014. She was 82.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 21 in Sorrells Funeral Home Chapel with her grandson, Carey Whitman officiating. Burial will follow in Burns Church Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home & Crematory of Slocomb directing. The family will receive friends on Sunday beginning at 1:00 p.m. and continuing until service time.

Mrs. Smith was born September 8, 1932 in Geneva County to the late J.C. Hughes and Ruby Seay Robinson. She was a charter member of Burns Assembly of God Church.  Mrs. Smith possessed a nurturing and giving spirit, loved children and will be dearly missed.

 

In addition to her parents, one son, Rickie Whitman; sisters: Voncile James and Kathleen Hooper; brothers: Jack and J.B. Hughes preceded her in death.

 

Survivors include her husband, Lloyd Smith; children: Wayne Whitman (Alice), Pansie, Michael Whitman (Robin), Houston, TX, Gary Whitman (Shaunie), Dallas, TX and Rita Walters (Pat Linzalone), Dothan; daughter-in-law, Ava Whitman, Houston, TX; thirteen grandchildren; twenty six great grandchildren; Siblings: Mary Holland, Carolyn Fowler (Rodney), Evelyn Robinson and Johnny Mac Hughes; several nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends.
