Mr. Heyward Jackson Butler of Slocomb passed away Friday, May 31, 2019 at Bonifay Health and Rehabilitation Center.  He was 92.

 

Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 2, 2019 at Union Hill Free Will Baptist Church with Rev.  Wayne Parker, Rev. Bobby Ned Peters, Bro. Phil Cook, and Rev. David Williford officiating and Sorrells Funeral Home of Slocomb directing.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

 

The family will receive friends at the church from 2:00 p.m. until service time.

 

Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made to the Union Hill Free Will Baptist Church building fund.

 

Mr. Butler was born June 24, 1926 in Geneva County to the late Samuel Jackson and Marilyn Tindell Butler. Heyward was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force and served honorably for 23 years.  In addition, he also retired from the State of Alabama Labor Department after 20 years of service.  Heyward enjoyed fishing, woodworking, was a Master Mason, and was a faithful member of Union Hill Free Will Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday school teacher.

 

In addition to his parents, sisters: Edna Huggins and Ethel Piotrowski preceded him in death.

 

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Henrietta Simon Butler, Slocomb; children: Linda Cherry, Katy, TX, Benny Butler (Carol), Slocomb, Rhenella Smith (Larry), Dothan, and Sarah H. Weaver (John), Slocomb; grandchildren: Kenny Moore, Candy Milman, John Greer, Jennifer McEahern, Quentin Helms, and Alexa Helms; sister, Mary Loyce Helms, Auburn; other extended family and friends.
