Mrs. Carolyn Barnes Dean of Slocomb went home to be with the LORD, Friday, December 1, 2017 at her home surrounded by her loving family.  She was 93.

  Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 2, 2017 in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home & Crematory in Slocomb with Reverend Ronnie Dobbs officiating. Interment will follow in the Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery. Flowers will be accepted.   The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 2:00 p.m. until service time.   Mrs. Dean was born April 7, 1924 in Geneva County to the late Edward Bascum "E.B." and Bessie Mae Culliver Barnes.  Carolyn enjoyed fishing and spending time working in her yard and flower beds.  She was a dedicated wife, adoring mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother who will be dearly missed.   In addition to her parents, her husband, Fred J. Dean; grandson, John David Sammons; son-in-law, Jerry W. Barnett; siblings: Dolphis, Mary, Foy, Mackey and Lamar all preceded her in death.   Survivors include one daughter, Freddie Carol Barnett, TX; one son, Bobby J. Dean (Barbara), Slocomb; grandchildren: Fredrick Sammons (Delana) and Johnny L. Dean (Tammy); great grandchildren: Kayla, Meagan, Tatum, Savannah and Easton; great-great grandson, Thomas Able; siblings: Harold Barnes, Betty Sue Bottoms and Buddy Barnes; sister-in-law, Mildred Dean; brother-in-law, Jimmy Harris; several nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends.   The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Amy, Angela and the entire staff of Kindred Hospice for the love and care shown to Carolyn during her illness.

Freddie Carol and Bobby, I am so sorry to read about the passing of your Mother. I had not seem her for some time but I remember her as a very sweet lady. You are in my prayers along with her large family-greats, grans, and great grans- so wonderful.
