Mrs. Irene Wilson Hanners of Dothan passed away Wednesday, July 5, 2017 surrounded by her family and friends at Westside Terrace. She was 96.  Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m.  on Saturday, July 8, 2017 at Goodwater Free Will Baptist Church in Wicksburg with Rev. Bobby Ned Peters, Rev. Robert Gilley and Rev. Jeff Lunsford officiating.        Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home & Crematory of Slocomb directing.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.      At all other times the family will receive friends at 484 Hubbard Road in Wicksburg.  Mrs. Hanners was born  April 18, 1921 in Houston County to the late Horace N. and Dovie Thomley Wilson. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.  In addition to her parents her husband of 50 years, Comer Hanners; son, Jerry Charles Wilson; grandson, Jeffrey Benefield; brothers: Bobby, Crettis, J.T. and Kurt Wilson all preceded her in death.  She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Myra Benefield (Doug), her sons: James Wilson (Voncile) and Lamar Hanners; grandchildren; great grandchildren; sisters: Carolyn Hulon,  Glenda Skelton (William) and Jackie Peters (Bobby); sister-in-law, Marian Senn (Dewey); A host of nieces and nephews who affectionately called her Aunt Rene.  The family wishes to thank the wonderful and loving staff of Westside Terrace and the caring compassionate nurses of Kindred Hospice.
